This is a flatwater trip suitable for all abilities. We will do a quiet paddle into the heart of the refuge poking into all the bogs and muskeag looking for moose, otter, eagles and osprey. There are a number of boreal bird species (black backed woodpecker, boreal chickadee, rusty winged blackbird) that reach their southernmost limit in this area.
Meet in Newry at 8 a.m. or arrive the night before and stay in our timberframe lodge (www.mahoosucmountainlodge.com). All canoeing equipment, shuttle and lunch provided. Newry is one hour north of camp Winona. Trip will be led by Polly Mahoney and Kevin Slater of Mahoosuc Guide Service.
The trip will last from 8 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Please contact either Polly or Kevin at 207-824-2073 or info@mahoosuc.com for reservations and information.

The best way to enjoy poling is with current! Come a day early to the Maine Canoe Symposium and enjoy some beautiful poling on the soft current, with just the girls! Maybe we will pole down river; maybe we will just find the perfect spot and work the heck out of it, and the kinks out of us. Come with good footwear, no sandals or vibram soled shoes (too slippery). Bean boots are good and any shoe you can walk on a smooth wet surface in. You will be happier if you bring a hat with a brim, polarized sunglasses, a rainsuit, neoprene gloves and knee pads. Also bring a change of clothes in case you need it...luck favors the prepared. I will be able to waterproof what you bring if you need it.
